Dr. Ruth Verhamme recently joined our team at Wildlife Health Gent to work on the GLOSSI project. She will leverage advanced gene-editing techniques to better understand and combat Bsal. Using CRISPR-Cas9 technology, she aims to modify specific glycosylation patterns in an in vitro skin model to investigate their role in Bsal colonization. This cutting-edge approach builds on prior findings and involves collaborations with experts in CRISPR research. The ultimate goal is to uncover novel strategies for reducing Bsal adhesion and invasion, paving the way for innovative interventions to protect salamander species.
